Are you considering booking a maternity photoshoot but unsure how to strike the perfect pose? Posing for maternity photoshoots can feel daunting, but with a few simple tips and tricks, you can showcase your radiant pregnancy glow and embrace the miraculous journey of motherhood. As a Toronto Maternity Photographer, I have guided many gorgeous mom-to-be's in posing and posture to achieve the perfect curves during their maternity photoshoot. Let's dive in how we achieve a fun and incredible maternity photoshoot with posing tips to capture this incredible time!
1) Love your Baby Bump
First off, it's important to connect with your beautiful baby bump. It's important to remember the whole purpose of your maternity photoshoot is to draw attention to your belly! In almost every single shot during your maternity photoshoot, your hand should be touching your belly in one way or another. A soft cradle either on top of your baby bump, or just underneath the belly button area, will help draw attention to your torso.
Be creative during your maternity photoshoot! Experiment with different angles varieties with your arms and hands to find the most flattering position that highlight your curves and the beauty of your pregnancy! An experience maternity photographer will be able to give you guidance as you go!
2) Posture is important
Good posture during your maternity photoshoot is important so we can showcase your beautiful curves. One easy trick is to keep the closest leg to the camera slightly bent, that helps your hip to naturally swing out slightly in creating beautiful curves to accentuate your belly.
And you'll want to prevent hunching over with your torso, so you look elongated and elegant in your portraits.
3) Where to look and expressions
During your maternity photoshoot, you'll find there are so a lot of things happening - the leg bend, the hands, all the flashing lights and a big camera in front of you!
To stay focused and feel relaxed - just connect with your baby bump. Looking at your belly with a radiant smile can be an incredibly simple and beautiful portrait. You can also tilt your head towards the main light source and close your eyes - just soaking in the feeling of welcoming your baby during your maternity photoshoot.
The classic straight on-looking at the camera portrait, with a gentle smile is one that many moms find flattering as well.
4) Sitting and lying down poses
Near the tail end of a maternity photoshoot, I like to introduce sitting and lying down poses. This gives mom a nice relaxing break, as well as adding variations to the gallery.
The beauty of sitting and lying down poses is that moms can really enjoy the maternity photoshoot without worrying about their curves as much. Because of their baby bump, lying down, or sitting on a stool, naturally accentuates their bump even more! Going back to tip #1, they just have to place hand by their belly - and voila! What a beautiful portrait of lovely mom-to-be.
Posing beautifully for your maternity photoshoot is all about embracing the beauty of your pregnancy journey and allowing your authentic self to shine through. I hope these easy-to-follow tips and techniques can help you confidently strike the perfect pose and create stunning images that you'll cherish for a lifetime. So, embrace your bump, focus on good posture, and have fun celebrating this magical moment in your life.
